What to Expect as a New Patient

The process starts with a referral from your physician to our clinic. When you schedule your fist appointment, we will gather your insurance information so that we can advise you of your benefits. The first visit will take approximately one to one and one half hours.

There are four key systems that contribute to balance: musculoskeletal, vestibular, visual and central nervous system. Our therapists perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine how these four systems interact.

This includes the following:

  • History
  • Musculoskeletal system assessment, includes strength & range of motion
  • Vestibular testing
  • Functional balance/mobility skills
  • Level of independence in basic self-care
  • Level of vertigo or other dizziness

Then a specific plan of vestibular retraining therapy is developed with you to restore maximum function of all four systems.

The treatment plan may consist of the following:

  • Hands on techniques
  • Passive stretching
  • Individualized goals
  • Soft tissue and joint mobilization
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Neuromuscular reeducation
  • Habitation exercises

Patients are active participants in their rehabilitation. It is your responsibility to help yourself by following your exercise regimen and attending your scheduled appointments. It is our responsibility to help you by providing education and adapting your treatment as your condition improves.
